Insulate It Solutions – Spray Foam Insulation

Insulate It Solutions is sprayed into walls, ceilings and attics to seal gaps and prevent air leakages. It’s an energy-efficient, cost effective alternative to fiberglass batts and cellulose insulation and it offers high R-values for increased home comfort and efficiency.

The type of spray foam that’s used in homes will differ, depending on climate and the needs of the homeowner or home builder. Home builders generally use two to three inches of foam in walls and roofs in order to meet energy codes. The thicker the insulation, the more efficient the home will be.

Key Applications of Spray Foam Insulation

Closed-cell spray foam contains tiny pockets that create barriers against heat energy and sound, and this makes it a more durable insulator than its open-cell counterpart. It’s also less expensive because it doesn’t require a separate vapor barrier, but the foam isn’t as flexible or soft after drying as open-cell spray foam.

Open-cell spray foam is made from polyurethane or polyisocyanurate, and it uses water or carbon dioxide as the propellant. This makes it less harmful to the environment and more sustainable, but it can be more prone to moisture than its closed-cell cousin.

Both types of spray foam are injected into the wall or attic space with a special gun and a mixture of liquid and gas that expands to fill the space. This creates an air-tight barrier that stops hot outside air from creeping into the house in winter and cold outside air from creeping in during summer. It’s much more durable than traditional fiberglass and cellulose insulation, and it can be used in tight spaces that can’t be reached with fiberglass or cellulose batts.
